Madama Butterfly
Inbunden bok.
Gott skick. Edizione Ricordi, Italy 1904. 226 pages in publishers hardcover. The book has signs of handling and shelf wear, mainly in the spine area and on the cover corners. The cover has a tear (approximately 1 inch) between the spine (base) and the front cover. White covers are rarely as clean as they are on this copy when it comes to works of this popularity. The pages are slightly darkened along the edges but apart from that the book is internally in very good condition. There is a printed dedication to "La Regina Elena" (the Queen of Italy at the time). Apart from the unfortunate tear this is overall quite a well preserved copy of a Puccini masterpiece! This is the first edition of Puccinis second version of his opera "Madama Butterfly" which was a great success. The first version of this Japanese tradegy was by far his biggest failure, according to himself due to the second act being to long. The second act is in this version divided in 2 parts. The opera is founded on the book by John L. Long, or perhaps more accurately - the drama by David Belasco.
