It features archive and contemporary material illustrating this almost-forgotten part of our architectural and industrial heritage. In attempting to explain how these buildings were produced, who they were for, and why we should consider them important, the book shows how these buildings reflected the society in which they were created and flourished. A photographic survey gathers together just some of the surprising number of these buildings which still survive. / Ian Smith is a graphic design consultant based in Wales. His clients have
included many publishing companies over the years but this is the first
book he has produced himself. He is still hunting down 'new' examples of
tin tabernacles. / "This book deserves 5* for the effort that the author put into creating it. In the best sense of the word, it is an amateur achievement capturing a soon=to-be forgotten part of our architectural heritage that nobody else is looking at. The book is a beautifully produced collection of photographs of small churches made out of corrugated iron. These tin tabernacles were thrown up often intended as a temporary step towards building a more substantial church. The author has toured the country to seek them out. He has provided an amazing record of these unusual buildings. Some were already demolished before publication and many others may have disappeared since then.

I’ve not quite understood the rather random order in which the buildings are shown. The historical information is rather uneven and not always perfect. But that doesn’t matter. Here is the raw material for anyone who wants to go on to do further research. The author is to be congratulated for capturing on camera so much of our disappearing history." –– GLÖM INTE ATT TITTA PÅ ALLA MINA ANDRA BÖCKER! –– Samma fraktpris oavsett hur många böcker du beställer!
