Photos of people and nature, amusing dialogue, and lyrical narrative spiced with gentle humor. A Meeting with the Icelanders Over a period of two years, photographer Sigurgeir Sigurjónsson and author Unnur Jökulsdóttir travelled the length and breadth of Iceland and visited people from all over the country. The result of their journey is the book Icelanders, which contains haunting photos of people and nature, amusing dialogue, and lyrical narrative spiced with gentle humour. Small-boat fishermen, jacks-of-all-trades, tourist farmers, fox hunters, rock collectors, hired women, and children of nature are among the people we meet - people who want to live their lives according to their own designs, in the environment they know best. Sigurgeir Sigurjónsson has worked as a photographer in Reykjavík for a number of years and is the author of several books. The first of these, Svip-myndir, was published in 1982. A decade later he published Íslandslag, his first book of landscape photography. It was soon followed by some of the most popular photography books on Iceland and its people ever published. The most recent of these, Íslandssýn, or Lost in Iceland, was issued in 2002. Unnur Jökulsdóttir grew up in rural southwest Iceland and in Reykjavík.
