A major reference catalogue of German Serienscheine, the colourful series of emergency notes issued primarily for collectors by towns, municipalities, associations and other bodies during and immediately after the First World War. Originally compiled by the noted paper-money specialist Arnold Keller and extensively revised by Albert Pick and Carl Siemsen, this 1975 edition considerably updates Keller's earlier work. The catalogue is arranged geographically by issuing authority and records denominations, dates, varieties, watermarks and other distinguishing features, together with contemporary valuations. The introductory chapters discuss the development and collecting of Serienscheine, including varieties, printing errors and questions of rarity and valuation. The final section, pp. 251–294, is extensively illustrated with reproductions of the often highly decorative notes. Keller's catalogues became fundamental reference works for the study and collecting of German emergency money, and this revised edition remains an important bibliographical record of the extraordinary proliferation of local paper money in Germany between 1916 and 1922.
