Un mémoire inédit de m. de la Haye sur Madagascar. Extrait du ”Bulletin du Comité de Madagascar”.

Inbunden bok.

Mycket gott skick. Paris, Augustin Challamel, 1897. Large 8:o. (2), 20, (2 blank) pp. Contemporary cloth backed boards, slightly worn, preserving original printed wrapper. Bookplate of E. W. Dahlgren. Jacob Blanquet de la Haye (1621-1677) was a french admiral, active in the Indian Ocean in the years 1670 to 1675. He was the commander of the so called ”Persian Squadron”, sent out to challenge the Dutch trading interest in India. The expedition was largely unsuccessful, making de la Hayes appointment as ”viceroy of the Indies” merely symbolic. Printed here for the first time is his journal from a visit on Madagascar in 1671, with comments by Henri Froidevaux.
Erik Wilhelm Dahlgren (1848-1934) was a Swedish librarian and writer. From 1903-1916 he was head of the Swedish Royal Library. He took a keen interest in the European geographic exploration, writing on recent discoveries, translating the works of H. M. Stanely and in 1893 treated “The French Travels in the South Sea in the Beginning of the 18th century” in a lengthy article in “Ymer”, published as a book in 1900. His imprressing library was after his death sold by Björck & Börjesson in Stockholm.
