Plate 4 and 8 of volume 2. [Stockholm] [1819] 27 x 21 cm. Hand coloured lithographs. A couple of spots and some smudging to the margins. Beautiful plates depicting a chic couple dressed in the typical high waist empire fashion of the era and two women in beautiful hats and colourful ribbons. Both plates were published for "Konst- och Nyhets Magasin för Medborgare af alla Klasser" the first fashion magazine in Sweden. It was an important forerunner to other illustrated periodicals and also a cultural inspiration with numerous plates and articles on art, fashion and news. It was published by Fredrik Boije af Gennäs - who designed most of the plates - in five volumes 1818-1823, (continued 1823-1844 in a smaller format under the name"Magasin för konst nyheter och moder"). These are some of the earliest lithographs produced in Sweden, the technique was introduced in the country in 1818.
