Destiny : A Novel in Pictures

Inbunden bok.

Mycket gott skick. Skyddsomslag saknas. [Format: 17,5 x 20 cm.] Albert E. Marriott Limited, London (copyright 1930 by Farrar & Rinehart Inc.). Printed in the USA. 400+ pages (unpaginated) in publishers original cloth hardcover with black endpapers and black text/illustration to front board and spine. The novel is without text and is instead told by the author's lead cuts found on every recto page. Verso pages are blank. Dust jacket is missing. --- Wiki-info: "Nückel, who had exhibited skill as an artist in his childhood, dropped out of medical school in Freiburg im Breisgau and moved to Munich where he resided for the remainder of his life. There he developed his skill in drawing and painting, joining the artists' association, the Munich Sezession, and developing an interest in relief printing. Because of the scarcity of wood, Nückel made engravings for relief prints on lead plates. A pioneer in lead engraving, Nückel developed an accomplished mastery of this medium, distinguished by ample use of the multiple-line tool. He illustrated works by Thomas Mann, E. T. A. Hoffmann and others before garnering considerable attention with his own publication Destiny: A story in pictures (Schicksal. Eine Geschicte in Bildern. Munich: Delphin Verlag, 1930). This wordless novel highlights the life and suffering of a female protagonist as a vehicle for a dark social critique. Much of Nückel's work favors dark comedy, profound irony and an often scathing sarcasm." --- Spine is a tad sun faded. Spine ends are lightly bumped and corners are slightly bent. Back board has a couple of spots. Both boards have traces of dust soiling, but to a very small degree. There's paper remains and alittle glue residue on the front paste-down, most likely from a removed ex-libris. Contents are very lightly age toned. There's light traces of handling on the title page and the 2-3 following pages. The rest of the contents are excellent.
