Peter A. Gilette and Paul Gilette have succeded brilliantly in a difficult undertaking. They have managed to write a complete, authorittative, and geniunely interesting book on wine that is free on snobbism, excessive admiration for French wines and high prices, and wineindustry cant.
They belive that wine is too delectable and too important to be hedged in by ritual and formalism. Yet they are as concerned as any chevalier du tastevin about what imparts quality to wine.
Peter Gilette, promoted from his parents bed to Grandas at age four, was given a goodmorning tipple of honest red wine by Nonno, who said simply: ”You ´ll like it”.
He did, and he was passed on his lifetime affection and respect for the juice of the grape to son Paul, with whom he still handmakes an annual three barrels of familial wine.
