Atlas Classique et Universel de géographie ancienne et moderne, composé de 87 cartes gravées sur acier dressé d`apres les matérieux les plus récent par Victor Levasseur (..) Nouvelle edition.
Paris, Didier, Libraire-Éditeur, 47, quai des Augustins. 1839. 16 x 13 cm. Half title + Title + (3 pp. contents) + (1p. blank) + 87 maps (where of 9 folding). Printed paper cover. An ink annotation at the top of the front cover and private library stamps at the top and bottom of the title page. The cover has a few small tears and minor stains as well as a small paper loss at the lower spine. Corner folds througout the atlas. Clean maps. Nice condition. A smart little atlas for the gentlemann´s pocket or the ladie´s purse with a decorative front cover depicting a globe, anchors, axes, a telescope and other items suited for the explorer. Large snakes curling up two tree trunks. The back cover depict an exotic scene including a water pipe and a ship in a gale. The maps are neat and well composed with a light tuch to them. Interestingly it contains maps of Haiti, Guadelope and Martinique as well as other french island possesions. The atlas has two sections, contemporary and ancient maps.
