Baksidestext:
In The Water-colourist, his first collection of poems, Sebastian Barry responds to his joy in being and to the presence in his life of various family personages, his grandfather, a brother, who have, in varying ways, contributed to his encounters with life. He celebrates, too, places which have been influences on him, and his explorations of himself and of others who have created the memories of his youth. The Water-colourist introduces a new and significant voice to modern Irish poetry.
Sebastian Barry was born in Dublin in 1955. He read English and Latin at Trinity College in Dublin. Since 1977 he lived for some years in France, England, Greece and Switzerland, and has now returned to live and write in Ireland. His first novel, Macker's Garden, has been published by Co-Op Books in Dublin and two short novels, Time out of Mind and Strappado Square will appear in one volume from the Wolfhound Press. His poems have appeared in several papers and journals. In 1982 Sebastian Barry was awarded an Arts Council Bursary for his creative writing.
