In the summer of 1956 a conference of French pastors and Anglican priests took place at Lambeth College in London. J. D. Benoit, who at the time was a Prof. of Theology at the University of Strasbourg, presented a number of papers at the conference regarding recent ecumenical developments in the liturgies of both the Reformed Church of France and the Roman Catholic Church. One Englishman in attendance, Edwin Hudson, had a special appreciation for Benoit's academic work. Following the conference, Hudson compiled Benoit's papers and translated them into English. This work the 1958 publication of Hudson's compilation.
