Sad Cypress: A Poirot Detective Story

Sad Cypress: A Poirot Detective Story

Pocketbok. Pan. 1954. 191 sidor.

Gott skick. Sad Cypress (the title comes from Shakespeare's lovely song "Come away, death") is a poison drama with a murder trial as its main setting. Elinor Carlisle is charged with the murder of Mary Gerrard. It all started when Elinor received an ill-written, badly spelt anonymous letter warning her that som artful girl was "sucking up" to her invalid aunt and might "do" her and her cousin Roddy (to whom she is engaged) out of their legitimate inheritance. Obviously the person indicated was Mary Gerrard; Aunt Laura had paid for her education and kept her in attendance. Then Aunt Laura died; no will could be found; Elinor was the heir. Of course Roddy would share if he married her. But Roddy suddenly fell in love with Mary the first time he saw her since her childhood. Elinor handed her engagement ring back to Roddy, and thought: "If Mary wasn't there ..." And Mary died! And a young man called Peter Lord, who loved Elinor, summoned his friend, the great detective Hercule Poirot, to help him, and said: "I want this girl acquitted."
