Blocks of torn and bloody flesh, shapeless and clotted masses, clots of matter that violently tear at our perception. Anish Kapoor's works on display in this exhibition, many of which are his most recent, are destabilizing images.
They are distant from that steely yet soft and enveloping cloud created between 2004 and 2006 and installed in Chicago's Millennium Park. From that liquid form, inspired by mercury, which encompasses the city skyline in an elliptical mirror, then distorts and reflects it, offering a new, moving picture: a living piece of the city that reflects, within that context, the image of those who, from the outside, watch themselves live.
Looking inside, to see themselves outside. And perhaps this is precisely the common thread that unites those artistic moments of smooth, mirrored, and reflective surfaces, which welcomed us lightly and undisturbed, to this different means of leading us inward, penetrating the cavernous essence of things.
To lacerate, with the merciless scalpel of experience, which dissects bodies to nourish knowledge, flaps of flesh incised to look within, defying the scream of suffering.
