This atlas traces the patterns of cultures and civilizations down to the beginning of the classical world. It does this region by region round the globe. Each region is presented by a specialist in that area. Each regional map shows cultural areas and marks a large number of archaeological sites and is accompanied by a general introduction to the ancient history of the region. It is followed by detailed descriptions, plans and reconstructions of the most interesting and attractive monuments. In all, absolut 170 important archaelogical sites are described and illustrated.
