Baksidestext
This book contains quite simply the greatest collection of Beatles photographs in private hands, collected over 30 years from a wide variety of sources: friends and relations of the Beatles themselves, as well as fans, 'official' and professional photographers, and paparazzi.

The images provide a social history of the group, from very early shots of a schoolboy John, the fateful garden fete in Liverpool when Paul met John and joined The Quarrymen, early days in the Cavern with Pete Best, Ringo at Butlins with Rory Storm and The Hurricanes, behind the scenes on tour in England and abroad including extensive coverage of Australia with replacement drummer Jimmy Nichol, making films, on holiday, houses and wives and girlfriends, to the last interview with John before he was shot.

Most are informal, unposed images, literally a snapshot of their lives. Keith Badman provides a commentary on the images, explaining the context in which they were taken, as well as a linking history. Whenever they could be traced the original photographers themselves take up the story. This is a book where the quality and importance of the imagery can never be repeated.
