Ecuador, the country located on altitude 0, is like a small apartment furnished with large beautiful furniture. Spend time in a few places to understand the people and the land.
• Discover Alexander von Humboldt, visit ancient churches, ascend Chimborazo, travel to the entrance of the Oriente, see the colourful cacao fruits. Cacao comes from Ecuador as Panama Hats do. Get overwhelmed by the Cloud Forest.
• This book is for travelers, explorers and adventurers.
Krystyna Hellström was born in Poland and lives in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied languages at Warsaw University, Interior Design in Florence, Italy, and History of Art at Lund University in Sweden. She worked with Swedish Television, for Emilio Pucci in his fashion house in Florence, wrote for interior design magazines and traveled in Europe, India and Africa.
• This book is about Ecuador where she spent half a year in all. She thought first that it was about nature, nice vegetables and fruit but Krystyna discovered that this little country has everything, mountains, Amazonia, and tropical beaches but not only. Ecuador witnesses about human history and old cultures that developed their long time before the Incas and before Columbus arrived in South America.
"… This isn't a book you skim on a flight; it's one that transports you, page by page, into the humid embrace of the Amazon, the misty heights of the Andes, and the sun-drenched valleys where time seems to slow.
• What sets this volume apart from the pack is its breathtaking visual storytelling. The graphics are nothing short of beautiful, with stunning photographs that leap off the page like vivid memories waiting to be relived. Hellström doesn't just describe the iridescent plumage of the cloud forest birds or the jagged silhouette of Chimborazo against a cobalt sky—she shows them to you in high-definition glory. These images aren't mere illustrations; they're integral to the experience, capturing the raw, untamed pulse of Ecuador's landscapes. Whether it's the vibrant pods of cacao dangling from trees or the intricate weaves of indigenous textiles, the photography evokes a sense of wonder that lingers long after you've turned the page.
But beauty alone wouldn't suffice for a book this ambitious. Hellström goes deeper, weaving a rich tapestry of geographical and historical context that grounds her wanderings in profound meaning.
• She traces the footsteps of Alexander von Humboldt, the 19th-century Prussian naturalist whose expeditions helped map Ecuador's wild frontiers, and invites readers to ancient churches etched with colonial scars and triumphs. …"

"We are not (nor shall we be viewed) as a handful of locations representing a clutch of places to be seen 'before you die'. That's for the tourist of the past. We are all travelers, explorers, adventurers with a new thirst for discovering the soul of each and every destination in the places we choose to spend time ..."
