"A journey for the whiskey aficionado. – Whiskey is one of those dark spirits I used to only enjoy as part of a cocktail. Now, like fine wine, I find myself seeking out whiskey for its nuances.
This book is a showcase of some of the styles of whiskey produced in America. Although very light on the technicalities of how whiskey is made in general, this book is more of an exploration of certain distilleries. It is quite hard to write about something that really must be tasted, so it does a great job with the photography.
Though this book can't please everyone, it does offer a representative sample of popular sellers from each state. Indeed, my state's offerings were underrepresented, but this is more of a tourist's tour. It covers whiskey's history, followed by an introduction to the craft movement as it is called. Essentially, some producers want to reproduce pre-prohibition whiskey on a craft level. Many of these producers find themselves rapidly moving out of craft territory into commercialized production."
