(8) + 663 pp. Bound in a later Italian (18th century) half vellum with green and beige title labels on spine, marbled edges and patterned covers. Large part of the title cut away and has been repaired. Missing text has been replaced by hand writing (though with som errors). Lower part of the volume water damaged, which can be seen throughout the volume, and the covers have been particularly damaged. Upper edge with a dampstain that can be seen throughout the volume. Julius Cæsar Scaligeri (1484-1558) was on of his time's greatest scholars. He was a true renaissance human and was both a writer, artist, philosopher, theologian and soldier. He distinguished himself in battle many times and served under emperor Maximilian of the Holy Roman Empire and the Duke of Ferrara. He was taught in art by Albrecht Dürer and was friends with many of the greatest scholars of the renaissance. Only part 1 of 2.
