He now is considered to be one of the ten most influential living martial artists in the world. In 1985, he was elected to the prestigious Black Belt Hall of Fame, honoring him for his years of pioneering work in introducing the legendary Japanese ninja martial arts to the Western world. He was awarded the extremely rare honor of ju-dan 10th degree senior master license in the Togakure Ryu ninja martial arts in 1993, and in 1997, he founded the martial art of To-Shin Do. He regularly served in the 1990s as personal protection escort and security advisor for Nobel Peace Prize laureate the Dalai Lama of Tibet.
