Baksidestext
The work to write the first draft of an academic text and to further develop it demands skills that are of key importance in scholarly disciplines. Such skills are presumably best thought of as being acquired through practice, but such practice would be assisted by a more detailed understanding of what is expected from the scholarly writer in terms of how to make academic text accessible to readers.

The first part of Academic Writing provides a comprehensive overview of how generic scholarly texts are separated into sections that must be logically consistent and connected by a discernable line of reasoning. These different sections demand their own analytical procedures, employ specific rhetorical devices, and serve different ends in the text, while at the same time they fulfill their role as part of an integrated text.

The second part of Academic Writing addresses a variety of issues and conditions that are related to the writing process, and encourages researchers to develop their own routines and standards for what, how, when, and where to write. Academic Writing is intended to contribute to the seasoned or aspiring scholar’s ability to develop writing routines that support new ways of understanding and describing the world as it appears and make it meaningful to us.
