A Field Guide to the Birds. Eastern Land and Water Birds

A Field Guide to the Birds. Eastern Land and Water Birds

Inbunden bok. Houghton Mifflin company . 1956. 290 sidor.

Mycket gott skick. Skyddsomslag i dåligt skick. ///Förlagets beskrivning: Winner of the Brewster Medal. The highest award in the field of ornithology is the Brewster Medal, presented by the American. Ornithologists Union to outstanding works on American birds. The second edition of Roger Tory Peterson's now classic Field Guide to the Birds won this distinguished award, partly because of its original contribution to the field identification of birds and partly because it had interested more people in birds than any other book in recent years. Simple convenient, complete, it is a new kind of bird guide, a stream-lined volume which emphasizes the characteristics of birds when seen at a distance. Peterson's famous system is based on pattern drawings, field marks, and comparisons between species. Beginners learn their birds rapidly this way; experts regard 'the Field Guide as their Bible. It is used in every university that teaches classes in ornithology, and with it, a whole generation is learning its birds quickly and accurately.
This new (third) edition is not just a revision; it is re-written, reorganized, and every illustration is new. There is much more color (over five hundred figures)» but those birds, particularly waterfowl which are more readily 'identified' by pattern than by color, are shown in black'and white.
